Are you an undergraduate student or a recent graduate? Learn and grow with us through hands-on internships in our accredited laboratory or as a seasonal field technician. UFI's summer paid internships typically begin in May or June with interviews conducted in February or March. Applications are accepted anytime and will be reviewed in January and February each year. Preferred student internship candidates will have at least one year of college chemistry, biology, or environmental science experience.
High school students are encouraged to reach out to UFI staff to learn more about potential job shadowing or research opportunities.
We are looking for volunteers to help us spread the word about AIS prevention this July!
Boaters and lake enthusiasts learn about the risks of spreading aquatic invasive species (AIS) at public and private boating access sites across the Great Lakes every summer as part of the Great Lakes AIS "Landing Blitz" program by the Great Lakes Commission. UFI received a small subaward from the Great Lakes Commission (via the US Fish and Wildlife Service) to host our own Landing Blitz event in 2025!
Volunteers will engage with the public, distribute educational materials, and help promote clean boating practices to protect our local waterways. Volunteering is a great opportunity for students, educators, and community members who care about water quality, science communication, or the environment. Volunteers who undergo training will receive a branded "Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers" cap! For more information, see this flyer or email Monica.
