Invited Guest Speaker
Dr. Eugene B. Welch is Professor Emeritus of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, retiring in 1997 after almost 30 years of service on the faculty. A native of Illinois, Gene received degrees in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and in Fisheries from the University of Washington. He held positions as an aquatic ecologist in Montana, Tennessee, and Washington prior to joining the university.
Gene's involvement in scholarly activity includes service on the editorial boards of Environmental Science and Technology and Ecological Engineering and as President of the regional chapters of the Society of Sigma Xi and the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography.
Dr. Welch's is an recognized expert in the field of water quality management. He is a co-founder and past-president of the North American Lake Management Society and past-president of the Washington State Lake Protection Association. His has served widely as a consultant and expert witness on water quality and lake restoration issues. Gene and his students have published more than 125 research papers on limnology and lake management, with 95 of these appearing in peer-reviewed archival journals. Dr. Welch is author of a text on the Ecological Effects of Wastewaterand co-author of the widely-respected treatise, Restoration and Management of Lakes and Reservoirs, both in their second edition.
