Sediment Studies
This is a corer used to collect sediment cores from the bottom of lakes and reservoirs. These cores are used in nutrient release and sediment oxygen demand (SOD) experiments. The cores may also be used to conduct paleolimnological studies, the historical characterization of lakes through the analysis of their sediment deposition records.

Divers
Divers are used in collecting biological and sediment samples and in deploying specialty equipment such as sediment peepers as shown here.
Sediment Release Studies
Gas cones are deployed immediately above the bottom sediments to capture (ebullative) gas released from sediments. Quantity and composition of the released gas are determined.
Sediment Traps
Sediment traps are used to determine sedimentation rates of various organic and inorganic materials. These traps (cylinders capped at the bottom) are deployed at a specified depth to collect particulate matter as it settles through the water column.

Dye Studies
Dye studies are conducted to characterize and quantify basic features of water motion/transport.

Sediment Resuspensi on
Sediment resuspension is the re-introduction of deposited material into the overlying water. This process can degrade the clarity of water and promote the release of constituents of water quality concern. The apparatus shown is used to quantify the propensity of sediment to be resuspended.
